REFRIGERATOR POEMS @ Jenni’s house

by Michael Roche

I was visiting my friend in Missoula. This was twenty years ago. Before taking me to see the sights she had one chore to finish so I had half an hour to fill. Jenni’s kitchen refrigerator was littered with word magnets, many of them already ordered into phrases that she or her husband had concocted. I was not going to disturb those words they had used.

With fewer remaining magnet-word choices I began playing with words and phrases. Half an hour later I’d come up with these four. I liked them and copied them into my notebook to remember when I got home. I wish I had thought to photograph them.  Over time I would look at these and think – hmmm, not bad.  Here are all four of my refrigerator poems (don’t know what else to call them) from one afternoon in 2003 in Missoula.
